Susan Silberberg, APA, the Founder and Managing Director of CivicMoxie, is an internationally known city planner, urban designer, architect, author and educator. All of Susan’s work is shaped by placemaking…an approach to planning that is people-centered and strives to infuse authentic meaning and delight in public spaces, private investment, activities and collaborations. She has been a Lecturer in Urban Design and Planning in the MIT Department of Urban Studies and Planning for over a decade.
Her teaching focuses on the revitalization of urban commercial districts, placemaking, and arts and cultural development. She is lead author of Places in the Making: How placemaking builds places and communities, the 2013 MIT white paper on the current state of placemaking. As Associate Director of the MetLife Innovative Space Awards, she worked with over 150 arts and cultural organizations nationwide to identify best practices for affordable artist space development and community engagement.
